Assumes a constant annual return compounded monthly, contributions made at each month's end, and no taxes or fees. Real market returns vary year to year. These estimates are educational and not personalized financial advice.
How this is calculated
Future value = initial × (1 + r)^n + monthly × (((1 + r)^n − 1) / r), where r is your annual return divided by 12 and n is years × 12 months.
Assumptions: A constant annual return, compounded monthly, with each contribution made at the end of the month.
Limitations: Real returns bounce around year to year — this shows a smooth average. Taxes, fees and inflation are not included.
